Lighthouse Beach, Eleuthera

Traveling to Lighthouse Beach on Eleuthera is not for the faint of heart. It is located on the southern tip of the island, and if you plan to get there by road, then you need a vehicle that does well in all terrain. The road to get Lighthouse Beach is not well kept and full of deep and wide potholes and real potential to get stranded. We got a little scared that we weren’t going to make it, and we almost decided to turn back a few times. But the lure of the most beautiful beach in the Bahamas called to us, so we kept going. And it was absolutely worth it. But for those less adventurous, the safest way to go is likely to arrive by boat.

What makes this beach so special is its pink sand- it is unspoiled, powdery soft, and blush-rose in color. On one side, there is the Atlantic Ocean, and the other side is the Caribbean side with its beautiful caves and limestone cliffs. It is super secluded, and we only saw one or two people the whole time we were here. The sand is not pink because of coral, but because of small microscopic coral insects that have a bright pink or red shell. You can see the flecks of these shells when you pick up the sand.

It is a short hike to get to one of the side of the point to the other, and the path is surrounded by beautiful flora.

The abandoned lighthouse sits at the top. My kids explored the area and liked looking at the fossils here. This beach did not disappoint and is by far one of the most pristine and beautiful beaches that we have ever visited.
